History
Maa Varahi Amman Temple in Sri Lanka is one of the few Shrines outside India dedicated exclusively to Maa Varahi, The Divine Mother and one of the Sapta Matrikas. This Temple is highly revered among the Tamil Hindu community of Sri Lanka, especially in the Northern and Eastern provinces, where Shakta traditions are deeply rooted.
The Temple is believed to have been established by devotees who migrated from Tamil Nadu centuries ago, carrying with them the sacred worship of Maa Varahi. Over time, the Temple became a significant center for Shakti Upasana, where rituals are performed to invoke the fierce yet compassionate energy of The Divine Mother.
Festivals like Navaratri, Varahi Jayanti, and Fridays dedicated to the Devi are observed with grandeur. During these occasions, devotees perform Varahi Homam, Yantra Pooja, and special Tantric offerings. The Temple is also a hub for spiritual seekers who practice meditation and mantra sadhana in Maa Varahi’s Presence.
